Why Life Bites

If only
If only I could freeze time
Figure out
What I’m supposed to say
But even then I know
I couldn’t make it okay again.

It’s a hard place to be in,
The world, I mean.
It’s not supposed to be a picnic.
You don’t see rainbows without the storm,
You can’t see stars if it’s not dark.
Life bites,
But you’ve got to learn to bite back.

The fact of the matter
Just happens to be
It’s not your world.
Other people breathe.
They don’t own the oxygen,
But neither do you.

Love is a trivial thing
That runs too deep
To not self-destruct
Every now and then.
