my dream about the future

i can see a woman
leaning out an open window
she is stuck inside
of a cracked brick tower
with empty mirrors on the walls.
there is something written on the bricks,
i can't read it and neither can she,
but it still makes her cry.

she looks down to shattered streets,
the bodies of cars piled
in a manic, automotive mess.
her hair is long enough to reach the
fractured pavement.
she has been there far too long.
she has seen Everything,
and Everything burns.

the last tear she shall spare this world,
it falls to the ground and makes no sound.
she sighs like something she has forgotten once sighed,
and she calls out to the tangle of fire and steel,
though there are no survivors:

if only they'd known,
if only they'd listened.
